New directions for reinforced concrete coastal structures

چکیده
Abstract Within the last century, coastal structures for infrastructure applications have traditionally been constructed with timber, structural steel, and/or steel-reinforced/prestressed concrete. Given asset owners’ desires increased service-life; reduced maintenance, repair and rehabilitation; liability; resilience; sustainability, it has become clear that traditional construction materials cannot reliably meet these challenges without periodic costly intervention. Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites successfully utilized durable bridge several decades, demonstrating their ability to provide maintenance costs, extend service life, significantly increase design durability. This paper explores a representative sample of applications, related specifically internal reinforcement concrete in both passive (RC) pre-tensioned (PC) contrasts them time-dependent effect cost corrosion transportation infrastructure. Recent development authoritative guidelines within US international engineering communities is summarized examples RC/PC verses FRP-RC/PC presented show sustainable (economic environmental) advantage composite environment.

Climate adaptation of existing reinforced concrete structures in coastal areas
This work focuses on assessing costs and effectiveness of climate adaptation strategies for existing reinforced concrete structures subject to chloride penetration and climate change. We will study on existing reinforced concrete structures built in France at different years under different building codes. Concerning environmental actions, we considered historical meteorological data and two cl...
متن کاملFuture Directions for Reinforced Concrete Wall Buildings in Eurocode 8
The current Eurocode 8 belongs to one of the most advanced international seismic design codes. This leading edge should be maintained in future revisions of the code while the code should become as user friendly as possible. This article makes several proposals in which way the reinforced concrete wall sections in future versions of the Eurocode can be extended in its scope but simplified in it...
متن کاملExploration of Set-based Design for Reinforced Concrete Structures
To explore the feasibility of improving the delivery process of reinforced concrete, we focus in this paper on reinforcing bars (rebar) used in cast-in-place (CIP) concrete. Specifically, we describe the methodology for set-based design of rebar that we are pursuing in an ongoing research effort. Set-based design makes it possible to maintain feasible solutions for longer in the design process ...
متن کاملQuasi Distributed OTDR Crack Sensor for Reinforced Concrete Structures
A quasi-distributed fiber optic sensor is developed for embedment in concrete structures. The sensor principles are simple, and therefore, practical for crack detection and deformation measurement in civil structural applications. The distributed sensor developed herein operates based on the intensity measurements of optical power. The sensor consists of a number of individual segments on one l...
متن کاملUtilising confinement reinforcement for shear resistance in reinforced concrete structures
Common transverse reinforcement of reinforced concrete members with circular cross-section consists of round ties or spirals. Its purpose in members that are not subjected to significant shear loading is to provide proper confinement for concrete, and eliminate buckling of the longitudinal reinforcement bars. If spirals are to be used as both shear enabler and confiner for reinforced concrete b...
